The most recommend placement of the tie bar is between third and forth button from the top of your dress shirt. Do not place a tie bar any higher than the second button and do not place it any lower than the forth button. One thing that is very important while you chose a tie bar is to make sure the tie bar’s width is shorter than the width of your tie. It looks more elegant and put together that way.
